American Roots Music…honoring the tradition

Tim lakeTim Lake— November 12, 7:00 pm
Singer-songwriter, composer, performer, and teacher, Dr. Tim Lake is a multi-talented musician who has been playing banjo and guitar as a professional musician for more than 20 years. He has performed across the United States and internationally with his group "The Little Big Band." His credits include teaching at the University of Kentucky and the release of 10 albums of original songs.

A master on his instrument, Lake's music displays rare qualities heard on the radio far too infrequently. While over 90 percent of the compositions on his albums are original, Lake also often turns his eye to the classics, giving them his unique spin.

But Lake's musical abilities are not limited strictly to songs and ballads. In 1991 he completed his doctoral dissertation, resulting in "An American Concerto for 5-String Banjo and Orchestra," a masterwork that proved that a banjo can successfully be put on a concert hall stage to good reviews. www.timlake.com

Greg SchaberGreg Schaber—February 11, 7:00 pm
Greg Schaber is blues-influenced guitarist, singer and songwriter who performs original and classic compositions on a variety of instruments. Perhaps best-known for his work with the largely electric, award-winning Greg Schaber Band, Schaber is a masterful acoustic guitarist as well, and routinely performs original solo pieces that draw on influences as diverse as Delta, Piedmont and Texas-style acoustic blues, ragtime, jazz, and even fiddle tunes and old-time country music.

To bring life to these various musical colors, Schaber relies on a wide range of instruments. A typical solo performance finds him employing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, National steel guitar and guitar-banjo, all played with taste and virtuosity. Depending on the program, he may also include harp guitar and/or mandolin. www.gregschaber.com
